Safari Lodges & Remote Sites

Premium guest experiences, engineered lightly on the land.

Emplan designs MEP systems for safari lodges, conservation facilities and remote hospitality sites worldwide, where infrastructure, logistics and environmental sensitivity demand more than a conventional hotel solution. Our East African portfolio gives us especially deep experience in demanding remote environments.

Our safari lodges & remote sites services

Built for real-world performance.

Our experience at Jacana Lodge in Uganda and Kalama Resource Centre in Kenya demonstrates an approach built around resilient off-grid utilities, water stewardship, passive comfort, discreet equipment, measurable resource use and locally maintainable operation. We bring that knowledge to projects and partnerships in any geography, coordinating the full system around the landscape and guest journey and developing bespoke solutions when standard products or conventional details are not appropriate. Where a remote site depends on a borehole, lake, river, spring or harvested rainwater, we develop the abstraction, storage and treatment strategy as one complete system.

Water abstraction and source development

We assess source yield, seasonal reliability and raw-water quality, then coordinate intakes, boreholes, pumps, protection measures, storage and distribution around the lodge's demand and environmental setting.

Drinking-water treatment

Following source-water testing, we design treatment plants around the actual physical, chemical and microbiological conditions. Even where nearby water is unsuitable for direct use, the treatment train can be engineered to produce potable water, subject to commissioning, laboratory verification and applicable drinking-water standards.

Water security and recycling

Rainwater capture, efficient fixtures, leak monitoring, wastewater treatment and safe reuse are planned with abstraction, potable-water production and storage as one water-balance strategy.

Passive and mixed-mode comfort

Natural ventilation, shading, low-energy air movement and demand-controlled cooling maintain premium comfort while reducing plant size, noise and energy use.

Off-grid energy and resilience

Solar PV, battery storage, generator optimisation, efficient hot water, essential-load planning and clear operating modes for remote conditions.

Architecture and landscape integration

Compact plant, quiet equipment, concealed service routes and coordinated screening keep engineering from competing with views, materials and the character of the setting.

Management visibility

Metering, monitoring, alarms and simple dashboards help operators understand energy and water use, detect losses and take action before waste becomes a cost or environmental problem.

Waste and environmental systems

Appropriate waste segregation, compliant incineration where justified, compost pits for suitable organic waste, treated-water reuse and drip irrigation designed around environmental safeguards and local operating capacity.

Bespoke solutions

When off-the-shelf equipment does not fit the climate, transport constraints or operating model, we engineer practical alternatives that can be constructed, serviced and understood locally.

Project judgement under change

We anticipate constraints, identify what is likely to work in the local context and respond proactively when utilities, logistics, supply chains, site conditions or operational requirements change.

Delivery through handover

Concept design, detailed engineering, procurement support, construction supervision, commissioning, staff training and operating information focused on dependable long-term performance.
